CYSA Philosophy: Mission, Culture, and Style of Play

Our Mission and Vision

The primary mission of CYSA is to create the opportunity for all youth soccer players to receive exceptional training and development, enabling them to achieve their greatest potential as a player. We aim to develop players and coaches to prepare them to compete at the highest possible levels in New England.

Culture and Player Expectations

CYSA strives to create a positive family environment for players, parents, and officials that prioritizes the wellbeing of everyone involved and respects the local community and the sport of soccer.

• Players are expected to be attack-oriented, aggressive, and hard-working. They should demonstrate commitment, strong personal character, and a growth mindset.

• Coaches are expected to be positive role models who create a supportive environment for all players, both on and off the field.

Style of Play

Our club promotes an organized and forward thinking style of play. We look to be positive and proactive in possession by making forward runs and taking calculated risks.

Key Principles:

• Build-Up: Look to play through the defensive and midfield units as much as possible to get the ball to forwards.

• Attacking: Create an extra player close to the ball and look to complete the pass, dribble, or shot.

• Defending: Pressure the ball with the closest defenders to dictate the direction of play, and always provide cover and support.

Session Structure

All training sessions follow a predictable structure to maximize player repetitions and focus. Sessions typically prioritize small-sided games and scrimmages (Play) to get players moving and touching the ball, followed by specific technical Practice drills, and concluding with another Play segment to apply the session topic in a game environment.
